YouTube is one of the most popular online websites that hosts videos posted by its users. Three former PayPal employees founded YouTube in February 2005 in San Bruno, California. Chad Hurley was a designer whereas Steve Chen and Jawed Karim were engineers at PayPal. The first ever video to be uploaded was titled “Me at the Zoo”. Within a year of its foundation, YouTube was bought by Google Inc. for $1.65 billion. The company is based in San Bruno, California, and now operates as a subsidiary of the search-engine giant. The most popular video-sharing website uses Adobe Flash Video technology to display a wide variety of user-generated content, that ranges from movie trailers, TV clips, and music videos, as well as amateur content such as video logs and short films. According to reports, more than two billion videos were watched daily on the website in 2010.
YouTube’s biggest attraction is the free service it offers to its users who can upload, share and view videos. Most of the videos found on the website are homemade. The videos are streamed online enabling the viewer to watch it instantly.
